CVMAIL Lab at Imperial College London: Building Global Partnerships in Medical AI
From 16–20 March 2026, Dr. Pham Huy Hieu (PI) and members of CVMAIL Lab visited Imperial College London, marking an important step in strengthening global collaboration in AI for Health.
During the visit, the UK–Vietnam Research Symposium was co-organized at Imperial College London on 18 March 2026, bringing together researchers to discuss key topics, including:
- Clinical evaluation of AI models
- Safety and trustworthiness in medical AI
- The role of international collaboration in advancing healthcare AI
A key highlight of the trip was the establishment of a joint research group on AI for Health between VinUniversity and Imperial College London. This initiative focuses on the development, evaluation, and deployment of safe, trustworthy, and impactful AI systems in healthcare.

As part of this collaboration, Nguyen Son Giang, a third-year student from the College of Engineering & Computer Science (VinUniversity), has joined CVMAIL Lab as a full-time Research Assistant and started a research internship at the Department of Computing, Faculty of Engineering, Imperial College London. His work focuses on developing next-generation AI models for breast cancer diagnosis and screening, aiming for high accuracy and strong generalization across multinational datasets.
PhD candidates are currently being sought for this research direction under the Vingroup Scholarship Program. Selected candidates will be co-supervised by Prof. Ben Glocker (#Imperial), Dr. Pham Huy Hieu (#VinUni), and international collaborators.
